The Minnehaha holds a place in The Old Sea Dog’s salty heart as our ancestors crewed upon her back in the late 1800s. Clipper ships ruled the waves in the 19th century, they were sharp lined, built for speed and carried a large spread of canvas.’ The Minnehaha’ named after the heroine in Longfellow’s epic poem ‘The Song Of Hiawatha’ and was of the finest examples in her class. Known as ‘The Green Yacht from Derry’, she was commissioned by the McCorkell Shipping Line expressly for the Trans-Atlantic passenger trade. Built in St. John, New Brunswick in 1860, she served the company for 35 years crossing the Atlantic 55 times.
